The 40-foot label is not enough for a count. Use actual clear internal floor dimensions and test both 90-degree pallet orientations.
Editable rectangular floor fit
Maximum input: 10,000,000 mm per side.
Straight 20 · Rotated 15 · Theoretical floor use 68%
⌊ space length ÷ pallet length ⌋ × ⌊ space width ÷ pallet width ⌋, with both 90° orientations tested.

Market, terminology and context
Container names are nominal. Internal length, width and door opening can vary by type, manufacturer and condition.
Method and calculation
Run the simple whole-grid formula twice. Report both results and the assumptions rather than presenting one unexplained capacity.
A rotation can improve count where one side leaves a wide remainder. Equal area alone does not reveal grid efficiency.
What remains variable
Confirm cargo, access, clearance, weight, restraint and carrier requirements with appropriate competent parties.
