Measure the physical pallet at its widest and longest structural points, then measure vertically from the supporting floor plane to the highest pallet structure. Record cargo overhang separately.
Measure three axes; record cargo separately
Key dimensions and facts
- Length
- Longer horizontal footprint side
- Width
- Other horizontal footprint side
- Height
- Floor plane to highest pallet structure
- Cargo overhang
- Record separately; do not hide in pallet size
Market, terminology and context
Length and width labels can follow entry direction, deck-board direction or local convention. For geometric fit, the two measured horizontal sides matter more than the chosen label because PalletGauge tests both orientations.
Method and calculation
Use a suitable straight measuring tool, keep it aligned with each axis, measure complete extremities and record the unit. Repeat where damage or distortion could affect the widest point.
A nominal 1200 × 800 mm pallet that measures wider because of damage or protruding cargo should not be entered blindly as the nominal rectangle where clearance is tight.
What remains variable
Measurement does not determine safe load, structural condition, racking suitability or compliance. Escalate operational decisions to a competent person.
